International students

International studentsGrundtvig never sat down guidelines for the future schools or a detailed description of how they must be run in practice.
He declared that the folk high schools should be arranged according to the development of society

The ideal was to give people of all levels of society the capacity of "lifelong learning". Still today this is one of the main concepts of the Folk High School.
Read more about this at Citizenship, Democracy and Lifelong Learning.

Grundtvig is in many ways still present at the Folk High School of today. The schools today are, never the less, resting on modern values and modern perspectives on life.
Many of the Folk High Schools act as agents in an international and  global reality. The former focus on Danish culture and identity is challenged by an equivalent focus on culture and identity in a global world.
Both the Folk High School and central concepts such as citizenship and lifelong learning are redefined in a context coloured by a transnational or even global reality with students from all over the world.

Most of the schools take international students. Depending on the capacity and / or focus of the single school, the schools accept either internationals understanding and speaking english, internationals speaking / understanding some Danish or in very few cases internationals fluent in another language, e.g. german, french or chinese.
